All state jail facilities are the responsibility of the Arkansas Department of Corrections. The DOC here will ensure that all state jail facilities are operating at a level in which they should be. Their central officer is nestled in the Pine Bluff Complex. 

The Ouachita River Correctional Unit is home to the male death row offenders, while the McPherson Unit is home to the female death row offenders. But the executions are not held in either facility, the executions are held in the Cummins Unit. All offenders will be brought to the unit prior to their execution. 

When a male offender is brought into the Arkansas Department of Corrections for the first time, they will either be placed in one of the below state facilities: 

• Cummins
• East Arkansas
• Grimes
• Varner
• Tucker

When a female offender is brought into the Arkansas Department of Corrections for the first time, they will be placed in the McPherson Unit.
