The Guy Who Killed His Best Friend

Your best friend got on your nerves? You will not want to kill them Like Jeffrey Landrigan did because it could cost you your own life. Find out how he ended up on death row. Jeffrey Timothy Landrigan who is also commonly known as Billy Patrick Hill was formally charged and convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison for stabbing Greg Brown, his best friend after the pair drank whiskey and smoked marijuana in a trailer park in Oklahoma on August 24, 1982.

Summary

Chester Dean Dryer was a 42-year-old who worked in the local health club. Dryer was well-known in picking up random men and taking them home. Dryer would always call his closest friends to tell them he was taking home a new man.

During this time, Dryer called his friends to let them know he was taking home a man by the name of Jeff to have sex with him.

Dryer was later found strangled and stabbed to death in his apartment.

In Dryer’s apartment, you could find a big deck of pornographic playing cards all over Dryer’s bed. Jeffrey told the local police department that he had beaten up Dryer after he was making sexual advances towards him, but that he was not the one who murdered him whatsoever.

However, during the investigation, Landrigan was not cooperating with the police officers. Landrigan was even highly disruptive during his time in court as well. Landrigan even went as far as to tell the judge that if you want to sentence me to death, so be it, I am ready.

Landrigan as an infant was abandoned by his parents. His biological father died while he was on death row in the state of Arkansas. Landrigan and his father never met face to face. However, Landrigan’s grandfather was shot to death thanks to the police when he was robbing a drugstore.

Then in 1982, when Landrigan was at the tender age of 20, he fatally stabbed his childhood best friend.

Landrigan was found guilty of this crime and was ultimately sentenced to death, but during an appeal, the conviction was overturned. This allowed Landrigan to enter a plea agreement for second-degree murder and receive a 20-year prison sentence.

Then in 1989, Landrigan escaped out of a minimum-security work crew and headed straight for Arizona.

Final Words

Before Jeffrey Timothy Landrigan was executed by lethal injection he was able to say his final words. Landrigan final words were and I quote:

“Well, I’d like to say thank you to my family for being here and all my friends, and Boomer Sooner.”

Final Meal

Jeffrey Timothy Landrigan final meal prior to being executed was Dr. Pepper, steak, strawberry ice cream, fried okra, and French fries.

Crime and Trial

Jeffrey Timothy Landrigan who is also commonly known as Billy Patrick Hill was formally charged and convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison for stabbing Greg Brown, his best friend after the pair drank whiskey and smoked marijuana in a trailer park in Oklahoma on August 24, 1982.

According to testimony that was heard during the trial, Landrigan was accompanied by his son and his wife who arrived at the trailer park around 8 pm that evening. Soon after they arrived at the trailer park, Landrigan along with Aiken and family went off to buy a fifth of whiskey.

During their way back to the trailer park, the group of people picked up Robert Martinez, Landrigan’s brother-in-law. Upon returning to the trailer park Greg Brown, Landrigan, Donna Favier and David Detjan started smoking marijuana and drinking whiskey.

Greg Brown and Landrigan started calling each other punk. This is what leads the pair into a heated argument of who could beat who in a physical fight.

Aiken testified that Landrigan had a knife behind his back. This is when Aiken stated that he went to his bedroom quickly to pick up his rifle. During this time Landrigan jumped at Brown and fatally stabbed him in the chest.

When Aiken came back to the living room with his rifle in his hand, Detjan took the rifle from Aiken and pointed it directly at Landrigan and stated that you need to back it up or I will not hesitate to blow off your head.

Landrigan was able to escape in between two cars as Brown collapsed onto the ground.

Then while Landrigan was in custody for murdering Greg Brown, he stabbed another inmate and was formerly convicted of battery and assault with a deadly weapon.

Then just three measly years later was when Landrigan escaped from the minimum-security work crew and was able to murder Chester Dean Dryer who was in Arizona.

A jury in Arizona found Landrigan guilty of second-degree burglary, theft, and even felony murder.

During sentencing, Landrigan’s legal counsel tried to show the testimony of Landrigan’s ex-wife along with his biological mother as mitigating evidence. But, unfortunately in Landrigan’s case neither woman wanted to cooperate and be a part of the trial.

Execution

Jeffrey Timothy Landrigan was on the state of Arizona’s death row for just around 20 years before he was executed by lethal injection.

The state of Arizona could not execute Landrigan until they disclosed how and where they got their supply of sodium thiopental, which is one of the three drugs that the state of Arizona uses in their executions.

The only United States manufacturer that is federally approved supplier of the drug has temporarily stopped the production of it, which makes it harder for many of the states to carry out their executions.

Landrigan was the state of Arizona’s first execution since May of 2007. To be honest, Landrigan’s first death date was supposed to happen on November 1, 2007, but that had to be put on hold while the case went to the United States Supreme Court about the lethal injection.
