The Youth Challenge Center is a minimum and medium-security state facility. The inmates housed in the Youth Challenge Center will typically have the option to be on the work-release program. The work-release program is where the offender can work outside of the facility in the community but report back to the facility when their workday is over.

How to Find Someone in Youth Challenge Center
Searching for an offender can sometimes be one of the hardest tasks, you will ever have to complete. Since the Youth Challenge Center is a state-operated facility, the task is not so daunting.
The South Dakota Department of Corrections will be the agency that operates the Youth Challenge Center, which means, they will be the agency that is responsible for having a database of all inmates they have in custody.
You can find the database located on the South Dakota Department of Corrections website. When searching the database, please keep in mind that there will be inmates from other state-owned facilities within the state of South Dakota as well.

All incoming and outgoing mail from the Youth Challenge Center will be checked for contraband. All incoming mail will be required to have the return address listed on the envelope. You should address the envelope to the inmate and have their DC number on it as well to ensure it gets to the offender.
Sending Money
The Youth Challenge Center has three different ways to send money to an inmate.
The first way to send money is via the telephone. You will need to call 605-673-2521. You will need to use a credit card to use this method. Also, please note that this method also will incur a processing fee.

Phone calls
The Youth Challenge Center has set hours for the offenders to utilize the phone. During these hours, offenders will be permitted to make phone calls home.
All calls inmates will make will be recorded and monitored by prison staff.
Visitation
Visiting at the Youth Challenge Center will be held between the hours of 12 pm to 4 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
It is recommended to arrive at the Youth Challenge Center about a half-hour early to be ready when visitation opens.
You will need to get in contact with the Youth Challenge Center as the offenders will alternate weekends.
