In 1963, the Young County Jail was officially opened to the public for operations. Throughout the next 50 years, the Young County Jail would undergo 3 expansions. As of 2019, the Young County Jail can house up to 144 offenders comfortably.

First and foremost, the Young County Jail contracts with PayTel. PayTel is a third-party service in which an inmate will need funds in their phone account to use. A typical 15-minute long phone conversations will cost around $6 if the inmate calls using PayTel.

Inmates will also have the chance to call by doing a collect call. The fees of a collect call will be the responsibility of the person who receives the call. Collect calls will not work if the person has a mobile phone.
