In 1963, the Summit County Jail was officially opened to the public for operations. Throughout the next 50 years, the Summit County Jail would undergo 3 expansions. As of 2019, the Summit County Jail can house up to 50 offenders comfortably.

The Summit County Jail supplies the inmate’s three meals a day and shelter, but that is it. They do not supply inmates their personal hygiene products, snacks, beverages (outside of meals), and entertainment. If an inmate wants these items, they are required to purchase them through the facilities commissary.
You can deposit funds into the inmate’s account by dropping a money order off at the Summit County Jail. You can do so when you visit or during operating hours.

The Summit County Jail gives inmates two different ways they can contact their friends and family members.
First and foremost, the Summit County Jail contracts with PayTel. PayTel is a third-party service in which an inmate will need funds in their phone account to use. A typical 15-minute long phone conversations will cost around $6 if the inmate calls using PayTel.
Inmates will also have the chance to call by doing a collect call. The fees of a collect call will be the responsibility of the person who receives the call. Collect calls will not work if the person has a mobile phone.
